The new fashion trend we are seeing all over at the moment is ‘Y2K’.

‘Y2K fashion’ consists of bejeweled funky sunglasses, short baby tees, ripped wide leg jeans, baguette bags, bucket hats, all in crazy patterns and colors. These were fashion trends in the mid 2000s that were all about being bold and making a statement. These now trending pieces are all inspired by pop culture celebrities from the 2000s, such as Paris Hilton, Miley Cyrus, and Brittany Spears.

“I definitely think that fashion is a form of art and love that people can express themselves through what they wear,” Fashion icon, Paris Hilton speaks up on fashion as a whole. (AZ Quotes)

Recently, many Tik Tok creators are showing their outfits with pieces from the Y2K era. Tik Tok’s trending hashtags #Y2KAesthetic and #Y2KFashion has a total of 405 million views and counting. Tik Tok is a main source of this comeback, as many of the Tik Tok trends are brought up by Gen Z to dress like a fashion icon from fifteen years ago!

Gen Z loves Y2K fashion as an escape from the current reality of the pandemic into ‘simpler times’.

“I always love to play with nostalgia and retroness within my work,” – Beepy Bella designer Isabella Lalonde says talking about 2000s trends, reports Christian Allaire from Yahoo News.

Many of today’s favorite celebrities from Gen Z are seen incorporating Y2K pieces into their own style.

A recent Gen-Z star, Olivia Rodrigo is influencing many of her fans to be a part of this fashion comeback with her newest music video, ‘brutal’. This music video has many fashion statements popular in the 2000s such as colorful butterfly clips, clashing patterns, chunky knee-high boots any popstar from Y2K would have rocked.

Another modern day celebrity, Bella Hadid is also living for many Y2K outfits as she is seen wearing cargo pants, denim oversized jackets, and many many sunglasses paparazzied, and even on her own Instagram feed.

With these 200os trends blowing up on Tik Tok and becoming more mainstream, it is important to remember to just have fun with the colorful pieces from this iconic fashion era and to always be confident in what you are wearing!
