An Interview with Brooksie!

An Interview with Brooksie!

Mr. Spencer Brooks (warning: don’t call him Spencer) is an extraordinary teacher at Colonia Middle School. Mr. Brooks is the band director, conductor, and overseer of the valiant CMS Band.

What got you into band?

“When I was in Middle School, I had an amazing band director named Tom Sicola. He was one of the best teachers and one of the best people I ever met. He made everyone feel important … and needed. He’s the reason why I’m teaching”

What was your first instrument?

“I started on trumpet, and with some encouragement from Mr. Sicola I moved on to Baritone Horn, and followed through with that through high school.”

What are your experiences in CMS?

“This is an incredible building… so many great teachers… and so many great students who wanna work, and play, and listen to my bad puns.”

What made you love the New York Jets?

“My elementary school teacher was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and then my father said ‘No,’ since he was a Giants fan.  So I became a Jets fan.”

Did you have other opportunities to teach, other than in CMS?

“I was already teaching in Woodbridge township, and I was one of a few people who wanted this job.  I just got lucky.”
