Winter Concert from the P.O.V. of a Percussionist

The winter concert of 2023 at Colonia Middle School was a great success! Jazz band made us move, and the Gold Band and Blue Band made us groove!

The music was incredibly festive with songs such as: “Rudolph”, “Jingle Bells”, “Holiday Shopping”, “Sleigh Riding”, “Naptown Blues”, “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch”, and “Winter Wonderland”.

Even though we only got to hear the 6th graders once this year, Brooksie’s magnificent band concert certainly was one to remember, especially as seen from a percussionist.

We had some sixth graders in the Gold Band this year, including the amazing percussionist Rafaella Sarmiento. She was a big part of the show, playing suspended cymbals, sleigh bells and snare drum.

We can’t wait to see what these amazing musicians do next!

Jack Cowen is a 12 year old, 7th grade student athlete who is in love with football and is very enthusiastic. His favorite sports teams are the New York Giants, the Texas Longhorns, the New York Yankees, and the New Jersey Devils. Jack’s favorite subjects are Gym, Math, and Instrumental Music. He enjoys running, video games, and after-school activities. Jack is very excited for this school year.

Rafaella Sarmiento is an outgoing 6th-grade student. She loves to play sports, play with her dog, and hang out with her friends. Her favorite movie is "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3". Her favorite song is "This is What Autumn Feels Like" and "Forever and Again" and she is the youngest out of 4. Some of her hobbies are drawing, playing soccer, and playing the snare drum. She is excited to spend the year writing for the Patriot Post.
